Happy first day of the Month of St. Joseph! 

I made my consecration to St. Joseph recently, then made a beeline to interview the author of Consecration to St. Joseph, Fr. Donald Calloway, who was kind enough to share his personal thoughts with us in the video below (19 min).

Here’s one of my favorite snippets from the book (page 164) that shows how Mary and Joseph worked together as a couple:

“The sword that was going to pierce Mary’s Heart on Calvary needed to pierce the heart of St. Joseph as well, but in a different way. He would not be at Calvary, but the sword needed to pierce his paternal heart since it is fitting that the re-birth of mankind would involve both a mother and a father. Husbands do not experience labor pangs as a woman does, but every husband is called to journey with his wife throughout the pregnancy and prepare her for delivery. As a good husband, St. Joseph would see to it that his wife was well-prepared for her suffering. He spent decades preparing her for the painful delivery on Calvary.”

    I Just listened to the interview and ordered the book. A friend had recommended this book but your interview with Fr. Calloway really sealed the deal!

    When the pandemic started I discovered this book, & started the 33 days so I could make my consecration to St. Joseph on the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. When I started to do the daily readings, I was so impressed by this “silent” saint I could not keep silent about him & so Emailed many of my friends to encourage them to get the book. I also sent for the printed canvas of the Icon which is on the cover. Just before May 1st we were able to have Adoration in our Church so I went to make my Consecration & have the Icon blessed. I am so blessed!

      Barbara,
      My big “aha” was that Mary and Joseph were a married couple, so they act together even now in the power of Jesus to help us. I now picture Mary holding one of my hands and Joseph the other as they lead me to follow their divine Son. The picture of the Holy Family working together for our good completes the picture for me. St. Joseph, pray for us!
