Wildlife Deer in Woods

This week I made this video for you from some “wildlife” I photographed in my local park. While you’re watching the deer and bunnies, enjoy a poem by Jessica Powers (1905-1988) that ponders in a delightfully human way the wonder and surprise of conversing in prayer with Almighty God.

Enjoy!
Love always,
Rose

    Beautiful, Rose. I needed that.
Thanks especially for the horses…my favorite animal.

Prayers that we both feel gathered to God’s embrace today.

      Sabine,
Agree that it gives us peace to relax into our “creaturehood,” marveling at how God has divinized our creaturehood through Baptism, but giving up the anxiety of trying to be God.

I still do not understand the mechanics of how God reached down to me, just one of billions of creatures. All I remember is chasing my Godmother-to-be down the hall on Christmas Eve to tell her I wanted to attend mass. Up to that moment I had been an agnostic at best, but now I had been called. Within two years I was baptized a Catholic; a watershed if you will pardon the metaphor.

Eternal love appealing personally to our individual hearts is sure mysterious. All we can do is thank Him, love Him, love everything He made, and try our best to pay attention! :)

Loved those critters, Rose, especially that bunny! Someday I’ll show you photos of the wild critters on our wilderness property in SW Virginia–turkeys, deer, skunk, and black bears. We call it Critter Haven. Praise the Lord for His creation.

Chanced upon this by accident? What a lovely poem and video. Great way to start the day. Makes me want to reread The Hound of Heaven. Thank you.
